Villa Salinas is a unique villa because it is really a well situated housing complex , comprising of a beautiful 3 bedroom / 4 bathroom residence and 5 minimalist guesthouses ( that can accommodate from 6 people to up to 16 people in total ) all hanging above Mykonos town , in the area of Kounoupas and overseeing the Cycladic islands of Syros , Paros and Tinos but also the magnificent island of Delos .

From the entrance gate – a vernacular Mykonean stable gate – an unfinished masonry wall enfolds the slightly raised two-story building in a seemingly pre-existing ruins enclosure , all surrounded by an impressive garden way with several beautiful large trees, cacti and beautiful flowers . You immediately know you entering a very intimate and personal house . Villa Salinas is typically Mykonean house , designed with narrow openings, applied stuccoed uneven surfaces, height differences and whimsical surprises .

 

At ground floor level are the sitting and dinning areas, the kitchen and two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a hall and a guest bathroom . Very large and open space areas give you the feel of space luxury .

All bedrooms and common areas have their own access to the courtyard ensuring privacy and independence .

 

The split-level sitting area connects to the entrance hall, the open plan kitchen and the dinning and offers unusually large indoor space for a summer villa and for indoor entertainment on a windy day.

 

A mezazanine staircase leads to the first floor , where a very comfortable office and a small gym occupy an area which opens to a balcony with spectacular views . The remaining first floor is taken over by the master bedroom and a linear , dreamy walk in closet . A balcony offers beautiful views over the main town and the Aegean Sea and opens up to a terrace formed by the ground floor , where a pergola and an L-shaped outdoors protect the interior from the western sunlight . The split-level bathroom with a large Jacuzzi offers also views to Chora and the mountains .

 

The two-story villa stands on a stone base which follows an uneven outline forming nooks and small areas to ensure privacy to the 5 minimalist guesthouses that shelters underneath. Those very private guesthouses have each its own sitting room, bedroom,bathroom and private terrace. They can be accessed from the villa or from their own private road .

 

The free-outline pool is close to the residence and it is adjacent to an outdoor dinning area , protected by two pergolas . The views are magnificent both towards the country side of the island but also to other islands and the Aegean sea . At the same time the villa offers privacy and a very tranquil atmosphere making you feel at home right away .

Interior floors are laid with white marble , bedrooms and the upstairs office with peach boards and the guests houses with ceramic tiles. In front of the French doors , where floor is wooden, marble relieves have been encasted for practical and aesthetic reasons. Balconies and the pool area are laid with Tinos marble, a luxury that gives a very special touch . The rest of the courtyard is covered with ochre-grey stone tiles . Ceilings and pergolas are laid with reed over chestnut beams .

The courtyard extends to the rocky enclosure surrounding it and it creates natural paths and bridges and together with the vegetation creates a very romantic and ‘’at ease’’ feel which is a much needed luxury in an otherwise very cosmopolitan and overwhelmingly busy island .
